Research Summary

Dr. Haskey’s research explores the impact of diet on the intestinal microbiome and its role in digestive diseases, with a particular focus on inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

Biography

In addition to her research program, Natasha is a registered dietitian, Dr. Haskey led the first study investigating the Mediterranean diet’s influence on ulcerative colitis. She is the co-author of two books: Gut Microbiota: Interactive Effects on Health and Nutrition and released IBS for Dummies. In addition to her research, she practices as a dietitian, partnering with LyfeMD, an innovative digital platform designed to support individuals with inflammatory conditions.

Dr. Haskey is also an alumna of the Advanced Dietary IBD Education and Training Program at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles, further solidifying her expertise in the intersection of diet, IBD and gut health.

Research Interests & Projects

My research seeks to advance scientific understanding of how diet–microbiome–host interactions influence clinical outcomes in individuals living with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). A central goal is to identify the determinants and biomarkers that distinguish “responders” from “non-responders” to dietary interventions. By pinpointing these discriminatory signatures, we aim to refine precision nutrition strategies and explore innovative approaches—such as combining targeted diets with dietary fiber supplements, microbial therapies, or pharmaceutical agents—to convert non-responders into responders. This work has the potential to significantly enhance the personalization and effectiveness of nutrition-based therapies for IBD prevention and management.

In addition to my active involvement in groundbreaking research, my research program is characterized by bridging the gap between nutritional science and practical bedside application and translating existing knowledge into actionable implementation.
